We have a question from a client:

We will be moving to Canada and provide personal services to companies outside of Canada. Do we have to charge the international companies HST? And if we don’t collect it from them, do we have to pay it ourselves? And if so, would we be allowed to deduct it from regular income?

If you will be exporting your services from Canada, you do not have to charge HST to your international clients. However, you should still register for HST, as it would allow you to claim an Input Tax Credit for any HST you will pay on various business expenses.
